The space★ Benbow Redwood Retreat is located 15 min from Southern Entrance to the famous Avenue of the Giants and is perched on the mountain above the Historic Benbow Inn and is a great launching point for your next adventure to the California Redwoods and The Lost Coast at Shelter Cove.
The main house is a work of art and is a circular dome with extremely thick walls constructed with compacted bails of hay and earth. Our family calls it The Hobbit House!
We wanted to create a unique experience for our guests to enjoy their vacation that focuses on outdoor living. Whether enjoying the fire pit under a covered gazebo, a nap in the hammock, a jump on the trampoline or a soak in the hot tub you will find memorable experience here at The Hobbit House!
★ The main house- the spacious interior has high vaulted ceilings, and you enter into the main living with the focal point being the fireplace, surrounded by cozy couches. I LOVE listening to music while vacationing, and the surround sound is fantastic, assisted by the unique acoustics offered by the massive walls. A large TV above the fireplace is perfect for enjoying movie nights!
★ The Kitchen! We believe cooking is integral to family vacation gatherings, and this kitchen will not disappoint. The kitchen is surrounded by an impressive island bar top that will seat 12 people. So imagine your group sitting around the island as you watch your chef cook up a masterpiece. So much fun!
★ The Bathrooms- two luxury baths on the main level with walk-in showers. Note that if you use the Casita and/or Cabin, you will use the bathrooms in the main house.
★ The Bedrooms- The master bedroom has a king bed and a full-size futon. And the second bedroom also has a king bed with a futon. You have lovely views from both of these rooms of the majestic oak forest and emerald green mountains in the distance.
★ The LOFT- you will love this space for your younger travelers. A steep staircase leads you to the loft area adjacent to the fireplace. Here you will find a Queen bed and step up we have arranged four twin beds and a large crash pillow.
★ The Cottage- This cottage is approximately 100 ft from the main house. It has incredible views of the valley below. Inside you will find a King bed, desk, and TV. The cottage comprises cordwood (small logs placed upon each other to construct a wall) and river rock. There is a wall AC unit and a radiant heater.
★ The Tree House Casita- While not in a tree, it feels like a tree house in how it cantilevers over the hill, surrounded by trees. This Casita is close to the main home (20ft), just next to the outdoor fire pit. It has a sliding door and large windows that provide excellent views. Just outside the slider is a deck that surrounds the casita. A California King bed and a sleeper couch allow this room to sleep 3-4. The vaulted ceilings provide a spacious and luxurious feel. A 65" TV has a power TV mount, which lays flat against the vaulted ceiling when not in use.
★ Outdoor living- The property has breathtaking views of the quintessential California landscape with rolling green hills, pines, and oak trees. The main house is surrounded by a stamped concrete patio (2000 ft2). The hot tub has fantastic views, and you can see the sunset over King Range.
★Gas Firepit- There is a lot of unique aspects of this property, and this Fire Pit is at the top of the list. It is INCREDIBLE! The Crossfire burners (by warming trends) puts out 250k BTUs. We had the fire logs/cones custom-made with steel, so when they get red hot, it warms the entire area.
The concrete table surrounding it is massive and perfect for dining, playing card games, or movie nights with the outdoor TV. And surrounding the table are comfy couches and chairs, which is under a Gazebo.

★ Hot Tub- the views from the Hot Tub are stunning of King Range. The Gazebo enclosure has curtains for privacy, and the string lights set the mood for a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
★ 14' Trampoline- Jumping on a trampoline is something people have loved for generations. That feeling of pure joy when you bounce, carefree. The increase in endorphin levels and the resulting energy boost. The knowledge that you’re getting a great workout while having fun (without having to pound the pavement)! And jumping still provides hours of entertainment.

Neighborhood overviewBenbow Redwood Retreat is located 1.5 miles from the 101, making it an easy launching place for your adventures to The Avenue of the Giants and the Lost Coast at Shelter Cove. Even though we are close to the highway, the property is several acres and high on the hill, providing a peaceful and tranquil setting. The views are spectacular of the valley below and the high peaks of King Range.
The Eel River is at the bottom of the hill, with great swimming holes a short drive from the house. And the famous Benbow Inn is a great spot to enjoy the bar and restaurant. Also, there is a 9-hole golf course that is accessible from the KOA, also at the bottom of the hill.

Getting aroundThe property is close to Highway 101, and the roads to the property are reasonably steep. The last 100 yards on Meadow View Rd turn to gravel. While the road is rough, it is easily accessible by non-4/4 vehicles. There is parking in the driveway for a maximum of 5 cars. There is no street parking available.
